(RPP)

Subject : CHEMISTRY
Class / Semester : X / 1
Competence : To understand the structure of the atom, properties of elements, and chemical bond
Basic Competence : To understand the structure of the atomic theory based on the Bohr atom, properties of elements, relative atomic mass, and periodical properties of elements on the periodic table and knowing regularity periodic, through the electron configuration
Indicators : 1. To determine the electron configurations and valence electrons.
2. To determine an atom position in periodic table.
Time Allotment : 2 x 45 minutes


A. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Through the assignment, the discovery of concepts, and exercises, students can :
1. determine the electron configuration.
2. determine an atom position in periodic table.

B. SUBJECT MATTER OF LEARNING
1. Electron Configuration
According to Bohr, electron is moving around the nucleus in certain level of energy. Every shell will be filled by some number of electrons.
The electron orbital shell 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 are named K, L, M, N, O, P, and Q. This construction of electron in atom is called as electron configuration.
The maximum amount electron in every shell is 2n2 :
K shell consist of maximum 2 electron
L shell consist of maximum 8 electron
M shell consist of maximum 18 electron
N shell consist of maximum 32 electron
O shell consist of maximum 50 electron
P shell consist of maximum 72 electron
Q shell consist of maximum 98 electron
2. Correlation of Electron Configuration with Period and Group
The electron configuration of atom can be used to determine an atom position in periodic table. Group number = determined from the number of its valence electron.
Period number = determined from the total number of shell filled with electron.

D. STEPS OF LEARNING ACTIVITY (Learning scenario)

1. Pre-Teaching and Learning Activities (10 minutes)
a. Arrange the classroom
b. Preparing the classroom conditions become conducive.

2. Opening Activities (15 minutes)
a. Check the students
b. Provide brain-storming through singing and asked questions (8 minutes)
1). Singing a chemical song. (Song text attached)
2). What do you think about the atomic models that have been learned?
c. Motivation (5 menit)
Teacher create an atmosphere of class so that students interested in material that will be delivered through the following activities:
1). Teacher invites students to peel fruits, bark turned out to have two skin of rough skin and epidermis skin. Then the teacher explain the corelation with the atoms in this learning process.
2). Teachers reminded of Bohr’s atomic model. According to Bohr, electron is moving around the nucleus in certain level of energy. Every shell will be filled by some number of electrons. Can be illustrated with a hotel room.

3. Main Activities (50 minutes)
Teacher Students
a. Preparing the hotel room game for students to explain about the electron configuration of matter. (Rules of the game is attached).
b. Guiding the students in the hotel room game
Room K = regarded as the first shell
Room L = regarded the second first shell
Room M = regarded as the third shell
Room N = regarded as the fourth shell
Room O = regarded as the fifth shell
Room P = regarded as the sixth shell
Room Q = regarded as the seventh shell
Each room can only be filled in a number of people using the formula 2n 2.
In this game explained about electron configuration.
c. When students are doing the hotel room game, the teacher held some questions on how to determine the electrons configuration of an atom.
d. Guiding students to make a concept of electrons configuration through the game that has been done.

e. Explaining the valence electrons to determine the group and period of elements in purpose to determine the location of an atom in the periodic system.


f. To ask questions about how to look for group and period of elements.
g. Giving the task to the students to solve some problems on the worksheet about how to determine the electrons configuration, group and period.
h. Guiding students in the process to solve the problem in front of the class with the ball toss game techniques (questions from a worksheet that was already distributed)
i. Emphasizing to students that the configuration of how the shell can only be used to locate group and the period of an element in the main group only, while groups in the transition and the transition will be discussed in eleventh grade.
a. Giving attention to the explanation regarding the hotel room game.
b. Doing the hotel room game in accordance with the rules that have been described.
c. Answering questions put by the teacher and ask the teacher about the material that is not clear.
d. Students discover the concept of electron configuration through the game that has been done.
e. Watching the explanation about the determination of group and period described by the teacher and answer the questions put by the teacher
f. Answering questions put by the teacher and ask the teacher about the material that is not clear.
g. Students work on the problems in the worksheet (time : 5 minutes).
h. By singing together (chemistry song), students passing the ball sweepstake, for students who get the ball when the song was stopped will be given the opportunity to go forward in front of the class to complete one question from the worksheet. The number of the question will be choosen by the teacher in the random way. Keep doing that way until the questions are completed. Other students correcting the answers by watching the position of atoms in the periodic system elements.

4. Closing Activities (15 minutes)
a. With students making a conclusion of configuration formula. (3 minutes)
b. Doing an evaluation by the way in pairs, each pair consist of two people, that will be categorized as A and B with the different question. The answers will be corrected by their own partner (A correcting answer B, B correcting answer A). (10 minutes)
c. Teacher explains about the benefits of electron configuration and electron valence learning to determine the group and period of an atom (2 minutes)

THE RULE OF HOTEL ROOM GAME
ELECTRON CONFIGURATION



1. Appointed 7 students as owners of the hotel room
First student : the owner of K's room (maximum capacity may be filled with two people)
Second student : the owner of L’s room (maximum capacity may be filled with eight people)
Third student : the owner of M’s room (maximum capacity may be filled with 18 people)
Fourth student : the owner of N’s room (maximum capacity may be filled with 32 people)
Fifth student : the owner of O's room (maximum capacity may be filled with 50 people)
Sixth student : the owner of P’s room (maximum capacity may be filled with 72 people)
Seventh student : the owner of Q's room (maximum capacity may be filled with 98 people)

But with conditions: although the capacity of different rooms but each room may only be occupied SPECIAL NUMBERS: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 18, 32, 50, 72, 98 course, do not forget to comply with maximum rule each room. Apart from this amount can not (the teacher explaining to do with the energy of the path).

2. Appoint one person as a tour leader who will bring tourists and divide the rooms for the tourists.

3. Games:
The position of each owner's room ready in their places. Tour leader carrying five people to carry tourists to the room owner. (Placement of tourists must be ordered from room K, L, M, and so on).

The teacher explained that when a group of tourists arrived and distributed into the room was completed, the tour guide must record the number of rooms used and the number of people in the last room. Hal ini dihubungkan dengan materi kimia yang dipelajari, bahwa : This is connected with chemical material studied, that :
The amount of tourists in the group = number of electrons from an atom (the same as the atomic number if the atom neutral or uncharged).

Number of rooms occupied = NUMBER OF SHELL filled the electron determine the number of atoms in the period of a periodic system of elements.

The number of people who fill the last room = VALENCE ELECTRONS determine the number of atom groups in the periodic system of elements.

With this explanation it can be argued that :
1. X atom with 5 electrons, the location in SPU is : group = IIIA, and period = 2
2. Y atom with 10 electrons, the location in SPU is : group = VIIIA, and period = 2
3. Z atom with 15 electrons, the location in SPU is : group = VA, and period = 3
4. A atom with 20 electrons, the location in SPU is : group = IIA, and period = 4
5. Q atom with 35 electrons, the location in SPU is : group = VIIA, and period = 4
6. R atom with 50 electrons, the location in SPU is : group = IVA, and period = 5

CONCLUSION OF FORMULA ELECTRON CONFIGURATION


1. Configuration is a description of the composition of the electron shells of electrons in atoms.
2. Bohr's atomic theory states that electrons orbit around the nucleus in certain orbits. Orbit or path is referred to below the shell.
3. First shell as K shell, second shell as L shell, third shell as M shell, fourth shell as N shell, fifth shell as O shell, sixth shell as P shell, seventh shell as Q shell.
4. K shell has the lowest energy and a higher shell has a higher energy. The more distant location from the nucleus of shell, the higher the energy.
5. According to Wolfgang Pauli, the maximum number of electrons that can occupy each shell is described as: 2n2.
6. The maximum number of electrons in the shell of K = 2
The maximum number of electrons in the shell of L = 8
The maximum number of electrons in the shell of M = 18
The maximum number of electrons in the shell of N = 32
